My name is David Mihan. Thanks for checking out my linked-in page. Please read below to view some of my core educational beliefs. My 17 years working in the classroom, building administration and in a district office have contributed to the development and refinement of these values. I have had the opportunity to speak and the state and national level regarding these values and hope that more embrace the sense of urgency required for massive institutional change. Thanks again for your interest- In order to connect with students, an educator must have a meaningful and invested relationship with each one- All students have the ability to engage in intellectually rigorous work- Rigorous work is defined qualitatively as a measure of intellectual challenge, NOT quantity- Each learner deserves engaging and meaningful practices that appropriately challenge them at their own instructional level- In order to understand instructional levels I must engage in formal and informal pre-assessment of student knowledge- Technology can greatly supplement the learning process, and creates a context of learning across many different settings- Learning should be interactive, collaborative, creative, challenging and FUN- Assessment should reflect an emphasis on process rather than simply content. In other words, it's not enough for a student to simply know facts; instead they should be able synthesize, criticize, manipulate these facts. Assessment should measure a student's ability to use information to a meaningful end. While this is not an exhaustive list, it is reflective of some of the beliefs that will define my practice. I have a belief that every student who comes into the class has the ability to grow both personally and academically.
