Background
About David Mitchell
I graduated with an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts, and am seeking to establish myself as a teacher of Creative Writing workshops. My writing has been published in Canyon Voices, Blank Fiction Magazine, Samizdat Literary Journal, and The Bridge. A piece I have published in the Spring 2007 volume of The Bridge, entitled Half-Born, won the 1st place prize for non-fiction writing. My thesis at California College of the Arts, under the direction of Cooley Windsor, was a historical fantasy novel entitled The Sea Devil of Orkney. I have rigorously developed writing and editing skills, molded under the tutelage of Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate Dr. Jerald Walker, with whom I have worked on two consecutive volumes of The Bridge. I have also edited Eleven Eleven, the biannual journal of CCA, working on the prose staff of volumes 8 and 9, and as Archival/Reviews Editor and Nonfiction Editor respectively. My accomplishments included the solicitation of local and international writers and the building of networks. Most recently, I have worked as a publishing intern at Small Beer Press in Easthampton Massachusetts. Additionally, I have served as a Writing Coach for the Learning Resources Center at CCA, where I assisted undergraduates,(many of them ESL students) by helping to instill in them the skills necessary toward editing and proof-reading their own work. I remain active in the writing community. In February of 2012 I attended the Fisherman’s Wharf Writers Conference in San Francisco, which is a rigorous market and agent pitch workshop, and have subsequently become an active member of authorsalon.com, where I put my skills to use in critiquing the work of fellow writers. I have also attended the Martha’s Vineyard Writer’s Residency in April of 2012 and the AWP conference in Boston during March of 2013. I have also traveled to Orkney for personal research in April of 2013. Specialties: Writing, Editing, Coaching, 1-on-1 Mentoring, Teaching
