About David Ngai

I am a cell biologist with 10+ years of experience investigating the pathophysiology of cardiometabolic diseases including atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes. I display high levels of independent and creative thinking, but embrace and thrive working closely and collaboratively with people from all disciplines. I am passionate about developing a better understanding of the immune system and metabolism and translating these discoveries into novel therapies to tackle not only cardiometabolic diseases, but all forms of chronic illness increasingly prevalent around the world.I have a strong background with 4 years of experience in tissue repair, inflammation biology, immune tolerance, and innate immunology, as well as close to 6 years of experience in matrix biology, mechanisms of fibrosis, and fundamental biological processes related to cell migration, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. I have high proficiency in: cell culture techniques including primary mouse and human cell culture; biochemical and cellular assays including Western blotting, confocal microscopy, ELISA, chromatin immunoprecipitation, co-immunoprecipitation, and qPCR; mouse handling and injections; and histological analysis of multiple tissue types including heart, aorta, adipose, liver, skeletal muscle, thymus, and spleen. My research has been published in the top scientific journals including those from the Nature publishing group. I have been the recipient of multiple awards including one of the most prestigious doctoral awards from the Canadian government CAD) and a postdoctoral award from the American Heart Association USD). In addition, I have had the privilege of being selected to speak at multiple prominent scientific conferences including the Gordon Research Conferences and the International Symposium on Atherosclerosis.My scientific publications can be found here:
