About David Nichols

I am currently the Executive Director of the DVMS Institute. The DVMS Institute’s mission is to teach organizations of any size how to Create, Protect and Deliver (CPD) digital business value using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the Institutes DVMS CPD Model. Its vision is to create a global association of cybersecurity risk management professionals focused on building adaptive, cyber-resilient digital businesses and becoming active contributors to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the Institutes DVMS-CPD model and programs. My role includes working with the industry’s leading practitioners in risk management, service management, cybersecurity, assurance, and business leadership to produce industry-leading guidance and programs to enable organizations to survive and thrive in a digital business world. I spent my “formative years” on US Navy submarines. There, I learned complex systems, functioning in high-performance teams, and what it takes to be an exceptional leader. I took these skills into civilian life and built a successful career leading high-performance teams in software development and information service delivery. I left my “day job” in to form itSM Solutions with my partners Janet Kuhn and Rick Lemieux. I spent nearly two decades creating and delivering service management certification training and consulting programs to Fortune 500 companies across the globe. In 2015, I led the team that created the award-winning APMG accredited NIST Cybersecurity Professional (NCSP®) training scheme and its certification training programs. The NCSP training programs teach organizations how to rapidly engineer and operationalize a cybersecurity risk management program that delivers the business outcomes expected by executive management, government regulators, and industry auditors. I also oversaw the certification of the NCSP program by NCSC in the UK and its listing as qualified training by the US Department of Homeland Security CISA organization.
