Background

About David Nicol

With over a decade of experience in innovation, engineering, and energy systems, I help organisations turn complex challenges into transformative opportunities. My career spans sustainable manufacturing, digitalisation, and automation areas where I’ve led projects that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, resilience, and growth. At WMG, I work with SMEs and international partners to drive innovation across industry and academia. From supporting manufacturers in the UK to shaping collaborative initiatives in Southeast Asia and India, I’ve seen how inclusive innovation can unlock solutions that benefit not just individual businesses, but society as a whole. My skills include leading cross-disciplinary projects, applying advanced technologies to real-world challenges, and building partnerships that bridge research, industry, and policy. I’ve also shared this work globally as a keynote speaker, contributing to discussions on energy security, digital transformation, and the future of manufacturing. I believe innovation should be inclusive, sustainable, and impactful and I’m passionate about helping to create that future.
