About David Oconnell
I have been a primary teacher for the last 5 years in a flourishing school in London. During this time I took the opportunity to complete a MA in Education with a specific focus on Metacognition, Talk and Singapore maths. I currently lead maths and English professional development days. These have been hugely successful and means I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of teachers from across the country. I have also been a part of multiple research projects based on the ‘Lesson Study’ approach. The latest one of which I took on the role of ‘Knowledgable Other’. This was a fantastic experience for my own professional development in terms of leading whole school change in an environment that is supportive and collaborative. Due to fantastic mentorship from my Headteacher, I believe in an approach to education that allows teachers to act as autonomous professionals in an atmosphere which focuses on support and development rather than scrutiny and finger pointing.
