People need to save for retirement, and to grow and protect their wealth. It is time for all of us to take our financial futures seriously. That is why I have been a Financial Advisor since 1993. I want to help people invest in ways that are efficient and effective for the long-term. Efficient and effective are two different things, but the process begins with understanding what each person wants to achieve, where he or she is now in that process, and what needs to be done to achieve his or her goals. I don’t doubt that index funds outperform the majority of actively managed funds over time. I don’t doubt that many people would probably be just as well off investing in an S&P 500 Index fund and a bond index fund as opposed to picking some actively managed mutual funds. But I know that this is not the whole story by any means. I believe that wise people will look more deeply into this subject. That is why I am in the investment advisory business. It is important to understand your own thoughts and fears and how you are likely to behave in different market conditions. Have a plan today for how you should react to good market conditions as well as bad market conditions. Know thyself. Sensible investing and achieving your goals is not easy, and there is no assurance that you will be successful. Knowing how you should respond to changing economic and market conditions is not easy. No one can see the future. Risks are real and can keep you from reaching your goals. You can lose money.
