Leading developer of the concept of ecosystem health, and co-developer of the Pressure-State-Response Environmental Statistical System (with A. Friend). Current projects: Assessments of the health of natural and human-dominated ecosystems; Policy-relevant indicators for assessing the state of regional environments; Relationships between human health and ecosystem health; Urban Ecosystem Health; Aquatic Ecosystem Health; Watershed Management; Pandemic Planning; Eco-cultural health. Field research on freshwater, marine, forest, grassland, and urban ecosystems. Major focus: ecocultural health at regional and global levels. These projects draw upon a transdisciplinary perspectives encompassing approaches from the natural, social, and health sciences.
