Background
About David Roman
I am a seasoned environmental lawyer and professor who has made a successful transition into immigration law motivated by my international work experience and lived experiences that expands from Latin America to China. My whole life has been devoted to helping people from the jungles of Latin America to the classrooms of Beijing. Now, I have refocused my legal skills to helping people in their immigration needs so they can better cope with the challenges of life’s changes. My immigration practice is by definition fascinating and challenging given my diverse clients with unique set of needs, most particularly my refugee clients. Some of my client’s needs are related to family reunifications, Adjustment of Status, Employment Authorization and Naturalization. However, my clients most critical need is precisely coping with the challenge of living in a new country. Given my international work experience, my multicultural background and my own lived experiences, I provide my clients with effective immigration services that is, above all, culturally sensitive. I am also an environmental lawyer with a Masters in Environmental Law (LL.M.) from Tulane Law School. As part of my law practice in the US, I counsel private clients and state government agencies on environmental management and regulatory compliance in a variety of areas of the law, including natural resources, solid waste, water resources, environmental justice, historic preservation, business entrepreneurship and contract law. My practice includes legal audits and due diligence on environmental regulatory compliance in the course of corporate transactions. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China’s premier think tank, where I teach language, legal, entrepreneurship and cultural skills to graduate, business, and law students. In addition to my coursework, I conduct research for the CASS’s institutes on business, environmental and international affairs. Given my multicultural and multilingual skills, I collaborate with the school’s international initiatives in the United States and Latin America. As a licensed US lawyer, I also provide legal advice for these international initiatives, including immigration matters. Before my teaching work with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, I was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Puerto Rico where I founded and coordinated a Certificate in Environmental Governance (“Certificate”). In addition to my academic work, I also served as Special Aide to the Chancellor on Health, Environment and Safety Matters.
