About David S Marshall

David Marshall enjoys a reputation among colleagues as a visionary program designer who can find resources to make programs work. • Concerned about the decline of arts education in schools and aware of the power of the arts to teach workforce skills and reinforce learning in academic subjects, he co-designed the nationally recognized HOT (Higher Order Thinking) Schools Program, a whole school reform model using the arts and democratic practice to transform schools. • Watching talented young artists from culturally diverse backgrounds having difficulties accessing the mainstream arts community, he developed and secured funding for the Urban Artists Initiative, a groundbreaking program designed to immerse culturally diverse artists and emerging cultural organizations in career and organizational development. • Seeing a lack of recognition of the cultural heritage of its students by Springfield Public schools, he developed Explorations in Puerto Rican Culture. This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, immersed teachers in Puerto Rican Culture and provided teaching artists to classrooms to help implement curriculum units. • While at the MA Cultural Council, he wrote grants resulting in in funding for arts education programs. During his tenure at the CT Commission on the Arts he wrote successful grant applications totaling over Marshall currently uses his grant-writing expertise as a development consultant. He shares his knowledge through a grant writing course at Brookline Adult and Community Education. After receiving a graduate certificate in photography from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University Marshall is pursuing his dream of becoming a professional photographer. His clients include, among others: The Huntington Theatre Company, Sleeping Weazel Theatre Company, and Wheaton College.
