Background
About David Salminen
Music does many things for people. One thing that it has the potential to do is to introduce people to new feelings, and even to harmonize contradictory feelings, analogous to the power music has to bring together all kinds of sounds into audible and trans-audible patterns of melody, simultaneous combinations of tone, rhythm, tonal color, tempo, etc. The tendency of our best music is towards new & ever-evolving recognitions of harmony in the world, whether literal or by analogy, and this is what motivates David Salminen, as a concert pianist. To work with that tendency, creating "cosmic improvisations","musical portraits" and other experiences, in the present moment, is what currently organizes both his personal practice and public presentations.
