About David Schaefer

I am a seasoned public relations professional with both agency and in-house experience who brings a pragmatic approach to corporate communications and messaging. With 25 years of experience, I have advised professional service firms, corporate and technology clients, politicians, and political organizations, and other brands on public relations, crisis communication, corporate communications, internal communications, media training, corporate messaging, and speech writing.I am currently the Director of Communications at Covington & Burling, where I drive the strategic development and execution of content marketing for the firm, including helping shape the firm’s reputation in the global marketplace through the media, as well as crisis communications, internal and executive communications, and social media. Previously, I was Head of Communications at Chadbourne & Parke, responsible for external and internal communications across the firm’s 12 offices. Prior to that, I was a Vice President at Hellerman Baretz Communications, a corporate communications agency. From 2005-2012, I worked at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and served as Global Director of Communications across its 23 offices for the final three years of my tenure. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Syracuse University with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and Policy Studies and received my J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.
