About David Sheps
Dr. Sheps received his medical degree in 1997 and completed his residency in Orthopaedic surgery in 2002. Following residency, he completed a shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Alberta in 2003 and an elbow and wrist surgery fellowship at the University of Calgary in 2006. Concurrent with his elbow and wrist fellowship, Dr. Sheps fulfilled the requirements of a Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary. In 2011, Dr. Sheps attended the Sauder School of Business at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he completed a Master of Business in Health Care Administration. He is presently undertaking a Master of Science in Medical Leadership at Birkbeck, University of London, in the United Kingdom. In addition to his present clinical work and work as a medical leader in Alberta Health Services, Dr. Sheps is involved in musculoskeletal care transformation in Alberta. In his work with Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network, the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute, and the Edmonton Bone and Joint Centre, Dr. Sheps is leading the transition to “single point of entry” for musculoskeletal care in Edmonton and the surrounding areas. Dr. Sheps is a founding member of the Shoulder and Upper Extremity Research Group of Edmonton (SURGE) and plays a key role in upper extremity research at the University of Alberta. He serves as secretary for the Canadian Shoulder and Elbow Society (CSES) and is leading the development of national shoulder rehabilitation protocols in collaboration with CSES. He is also leading the development of patient information materials for shoulder disorders in collaboration with the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation (COF). Dr. Sheps is a partner in Gateway Health Solutions, a company formed to develop innovative ways for delivering musculoskeletal care. This includes Gateway Medical Opinion whose aim is to provide high quality independent medical opinions to the legal and insurance community.
