About David Skinner

My name is David Skinner, and I recently graduated from an undergraduate student studying at the Honours Environment and Business program at the University of Waterloo. I have a strong background in the technology industry, with a main focus on systems administration, Linux, networking, and virtualization. I have previously spent several co-op terms at the University of Waterloo Faculty of Arts, working with clients to solve computing issues at the faculty computing helpdesk. I have also worked with clients to help with tasks such as designing basic websites using the common Drupal framework used at UW. I am currently employed at a major home theater technology company, Kaleidescape. In my role as IT Operations Engineer, I help with many aspects of the operations side in a developer-heavy environment, such as Linux server administration, Active Directory, networking, and monitoring. My IT interests lie primarily in the world of DevOps and the Cloud, wherein developers jobs are made easier by the development of new and unique IT tools and processes. It always brings a smile to my face to have a developer come over to me and say "Hey, you just saved me a bunch of time today!". I have also spent some time volunteering in research/leadership roles for several environmental-related initiatives around the University of Waterloo campus. I am primarily interested in the technology and management fields, and aim to eventually move into project management or more professional roles within the IT sector.
