Background
About David Spain
I graduated from Georgia Tech in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. During my second year at Georgia Tech, I worked for Southern Company at Farley Nuclear Power Plant near Columbia, AL as a Plant Support Engineer. During my last two years at Georgia Tech, I worked for Delta Airlines as an Operations Support Engineer at their TechOps facility adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. In April of 2015, I was hired by Chubb, a large property and casualty insurance company, as an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer Trainee. Upon completion of my training, I was placed as an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer out of the Atlanta office with the responsibility of servicing the southeast region. In simple terms, Equipment Breakdown insurance covers losses related to mechanical and electrical failures. In my role, I complete risk assessments for current and potential insureds to identify their equipment breakdown exposures and provide risk improvement recommendations based on ASME, NBIC, NFPA, and OEM standards. I also conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections for our insureds if they have objects that are regulated by the States in which they reside. I maintain a National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors Commission with licenses in GA, SC, AL, FL, NC, TN, MS, and WA. I manage the jurisdictional inspection activities for several national accounts. Routinely throughout the year, I engage with my service accounts by providing reports that summarize our activities and discuss any new and/or outstanding risk improvement recommendations. I am a certified Level-1 Infrared Thermographer and conduct thermal imaging surveys on energized electrical equipment for our insured. In the event of a significant Equipment Breakdown loss, I will conduct an accident investigation to determine the cause of the loss and to make recommendations to prevent future loss. I also perform Jurisdictional Technical Leader (JTL) duties for the execution of the Equipment Breakdown Quality Control Manual (EBRE QC Manual) audit functions. In addition, I serve as an Equipment Breakdown training facilitator for the Chubb Associate Program. In August of 2021, I enrolled in the online Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree program at Florida State University. Within the program, I am working towards their Risk Management and Insurance specialization. I am scheduled to complete the MBA program in December of 2024.
