About David Stanton

David Stanton is Sub-Dean and Canon Treasurer at Westminster Abbey with oversight responsibility for all financial affairs and matters relating to the fabric of the Abbey. He sits on the Westminster Abbey Board and for most of the last decade was Senior Independent Member of Oxford University Research Ethics Committee and Chair of Bishops' Residential Selection Panels. He is appointed by the Prime Minister to the national Senior Salaries Review Body, which provides independent advice to the PM and senior ministers on the pay of many of the nation’s top public servants, and by the Minister of Health to the Human Tissue Authority. He is also elected by the Master and Fellows at Corpus Christi College Cambridge to their Remuneration Committee, and is a Trustee of Pusey House, Oxford. This year (2025) he was invited to join the UK Ministry of Defence Research Ethics Committee. Until very recently David was Independent expert member of the National Public Service Honours Committee (Cabinet Office) and Vice Chair of Court at Westminster University (now Honorary Fellow). He is a former Residentiary Canon at Worcester Cathedral, Archdeacon of Westminster, Church Commissioner for England and Non-Executive at both the Church of England Pensions Board and the Wales Audit Office. He holds specialisms in Governance, Remuneration and Financial Ethics.
