About David Tanhelson

Ever since stumbling into healthcare innovation I have fallen in love with entrepreneurship, innovation, and the teams that come together to make the new and wondrous. This fit perfectly with my drive to learn and understand new things, a trait I am proud of but one that can also become a major sore point (I really want to learn engineering but I don't want to spend 4 years doing it!). This restlessness is why I seek to join and/or work with startups and SME's from all industries. The process of learning the inner workings, challenges, and players of any given industry is difficult but also incredibly rewarding- Figure out the regulatory landscape for healthcare devices? Done- Understand global logistics of silicone? Absolutely- Learn SQL and build a new database? Sounds fun- Watch too many YouTube videos about installing new flooring so I can do it myself? To my partners distress, yes. The point is, I always seek to work with new and interesting people, I relish the challenges of learning new businesses and industries, I love to win but only if my team is winning with me, I am never satisfied and always driven to improvement, and my year is made if I help others succeed. Some of my all-time proudest moments tie into that very last statement, some examples are- Helping a client increase their PROFITS by 300%- Helping a client understand the financial needs of their business for a new phase, lowering the ask by almost 60% giving the client confidence and making a seemingly insurmountable evolution into a very manageable growth plan- More than doubling the innovator application count for a provincial design competition (Innovation 4 Health)- Tripling our estimated donation goal at YYC Console Drive, enabling us to help more local charities than initially anticipated by donating technology (consoles) to allow their residence to have more fun during the difficult financial/isolation period of COVID.
