About David Tate

My professional life has been greatly influenced by two men whose impact on the world came in the late 18th and early 19th centuries: William Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout movement, and Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathic medicine. As a youth, I loved the Boy Scouts. Starting at 14, I spent every summer at camp and the remainder of the year going on camping weekends at every opportunity. By the time I graduated from college, I knew that my professional life was going to be with the Scouting organization. Originally, all I really cared about was being in camp all summer. But as my experience increased, I began to appreciate the character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness aspects of Scouting. For more than a quarter-century, I worked in a variety of places and in a number of professional capacities to bring Scouting to as many families as possible. When my personal responsibilities required a move back to my family, I started my second career with osteopathic medicine. My family had been consumers of osteopathic medicine for generations, thanks to a great-uncle who was a DO. I now had the opportunity to take everything I learned about not-for-profit leadership and management and apply them to an organization committed to ‘advancing wellness through the osteopathic approach’ across a large section of the pacific northwest. The future of healthcare and health policy needs to be based on the principles of osteopathic medicine and I’m excited to be working with such great physicians on this project.
