David Tolfree is a professional physicist and European Vice President of MANCEF (Micro,Nano, Emerging Technologies Commercialization Educational Foundation), an international body He has a Masters Degree in Nuclear Physics, is a Chartered Physicist, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Nanotechnology. David gained over 40 years’ experience in nuclear research, lecturing, project management and the marketing of research facilities while employed by the Atomic Energy Authority (1957-1966) and the Council for Research Councils (CLRC) at Daresbury Laboratory (1966-1998). Whilst working at Daresbury’s Synchrotron Radiation Facility in 1994, he established non-silicon microfabrication technology in the UK, based on deep X-ray lithography, He was also the head of the European Office responsible submissions to EU Framework Programmes. David has published over 175 papers, including roadmaps, news articles, books and chapters for books, and has given interviews on television and radio and been an editor and reviewer for a number of scientific journals. He co-authored chapters for MANCEF’s International Microsystems and Nanotechnology Roadmap. He is the co-editor and writer of books, ‘Commercialising Micro-Nanotechnology Products’, published in October 2007 and Roadmapping Emergent Technologies, published in February 2009. David’s interests are writing, film-making, photography, space science, swimming, gardening, lecturing in science and technology to the public, including schools and colleges. He recently published three fictional novels,'The Millennium Conspiracy', and sequels 'Acts of Retribution' and The Iraq Betrayals.
