About David Toy

My current position is one of musculoskeletal (MSK) consultancy within UK medical trusts. Combining diagnostic/interventional sonography and advanced practice physiotherapy affords utilisation of X-ray, MRI, ultra-sound scan and blood screening to investigate and manage complex MSK conditions. My role extends to ultrasound guided intra-articular and soft tissue steroid injection as primary MSK intervention strategies. This integral expanded role is underpinned by dedicated post-graduate education at Curtin University (Aust), Canberra University (Aust) and Canterbury Christ Church University (UK). One of my professional ambitions lies in empowerment of patients within the health-care sector by adjusting professional power balances - allowing greater patient access to evidence-based practice within the field of MSK medicine. This means, providing more timely patient access to appropriate intervention through access to highly skilled specialist physiotherapists. Moreover, I promote extended skills of MSK sonography, joints injection/aspiration, interpreting radiology imaging, medication advice, bloods tests for MSK conditions and strategic surgical or other medical/rehabilitation referral.
