Background
About David Uzumeri
I’m a full-stack software developer located in downtown Toronto with a total of twelve years postcollegiate professional experience. Out of school I spent almost eight years at the (then-)enterprise ticketing company AudienceView creating a robust, high-performant, secure solution for event ticketing scalable at a level running the gamut from community theatres to major venues in London’s West End. I got my start in creating customizations for specific clients and ended my tenure there leading special projects in social media and mobile integrations. Along the way I wore hats ranging from developing credit card payment gateways to ticket allocation algorithms and meeting InfoSec requirements for protecting customers’ credit card information, and got to watch intimately as the industry evolved from key-or-swipe to chip-and-pin over my tenure. In 2010 I was lucky enough to turn my hobby into a side gig, as I was hired as a freelance contributor to the multiple-time Eisner Award-nominated (and once winning) blog Comics Alliance. I’m a strong believer in the idea that a multifaceted set of interests and influences is beneficial in any job, and I’m proud of being able to perform two disparate disciplines at a professional level. The convention reporting and interviews I conducted made me a more comfortable conversationalist and panel presenter. In 2013 I moved to PriceMetrix, which was bought by McKinsey & Company in late 2016. I was involved in migrating the existing system to ASP.NET MVC, starting out doing front-end development with JQuery and Bootstrap (which I still use) before developing an inheritance-based XML configuration system, and then working in all aspects of the product lifecycle from requirements interpretation to data flow development with SSIS to tweaking the MVC structure to create robust, general models that solve specific problems while opening the door for reuse and customization.
