Background
About David van Holde
Employed in Demand Side Management, Distributed Energy and other customer-facing government and utility functions for more than 25 years, I have been a thought and action leader in these emerging energy practice areas during my entire career. I currently lead a team performing education and technical analysis of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) opportunities over a four-state region in the Pacific Northwest, as Director of a CHP market development program funded by the US Department of Energy. Previous relevant positions have included Director and Managing Engineer at EMI Consulting; Senior Engineer at SBW Consulting; Energy Manager at King County, Washington; Director of Distributed Energy research at E Source, as well as positions as Manager, Account Executive and Senior Energy Analyst at Seattle City Light and energy researcher / instructor at Oregon State University. Recent projects have included leading and documenting a full-plant, detailed on-site evaluation of compressed air systems in Ningbo, China for one of the largest fabric manufacturers in the world; managing a two-year evaluation of behavior and savings persistence from ductless heat pumps for Emera Maine; a regional commercial / industrial impact evaluation for Bonneville Power Authority; a statewide evaluation of Connecticut’s commercial / industrial utility energy sectors; a progress report on California’s State HVAC Action Plan, and a program evaluation and optimization of Tennessee Valley Authority’s Generation Partners solar power program. I have designed and led courses in multi-resource facility auditing, energy efficiency methods and technologies, combined heat and power systems design and economics, and sustainable design. Outside my energy world, I love hiking, sailing, skiing, building and my role on the Board of Vashon Household, an affordable housing non-profit in community of Vashon Island.
