Background
About David Viner
I’m currently working as an Accessibility Consultant with Blazie, where I support professionals who are blind or partially sighted, or who have neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD, autism or dyslexia. My focus is on training users to get the most from a range of assistive technology tools so they can carry out their work confidently and on equal footing with their colleagues. Much of my work involves training people on software like Dragon, Read & Write, MindView, ZoomText, JAWS, and built-in Microsoft accessibility features. These sessions are always tailored to each person’s needs and working environment. The aim is to make sure they leave with practical skills they can use straight away, whether that’s dictating documents and emails, brainstorming concepts and process visually, or just generally making workplace systems more manageable. Although I’m still early in my career in accessibility, I bring a genuine interest in inclusion and technology, along with a broad background in both the public and private sectors. I previously worked in libraries across higher education, schools and local councils, where I was active in the professional community as Chair of the CILIP (The Library and Information Association) West Midlands branch. I later moved into the commercial flooring industry, where I worked as a General Manager and then Sales & Marketing Director, before setting up my own web design and marketing business. My move into accessibility felt like a natural next step. It brings together everything I’ve learned about communication, systems and inclusive thinking. Colleagues often describe me as creative and approachable, with a good sense of humour. I try to bring that into every training session and team call. Outside of work, I’m an avid cricketer and proud to be part of the visually impaired cricket community. I play competitively and also help lead and support others within the sport. It’s a big part of my life and has shaped how I approach teamwork, resilience and inclusion both on and off the field. If you’re interested in accessibility or assistive technology, or just want to connect, feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to share ideas or learn from others in this space.
