I relate to Tonto more than the Lone Ranger or to a stage hand than to the star. Keeping things working properly behind the scenes is rewarding to me. My personality tends towards dry-wit and I speak sarcasm as my second language. TRAITS • Remaining calm in a storm, I display loyalty with a strong moral base. • Translating tech/geek to human is a special skill I utilize to connect with those around me. • Leading by example works best for me; I am not afraid to get my hands dirty or carry boxes. • Finding optimum ways to accomplish tasks through an efficient task-oriented approach. • Staying current on the leading edge technology, not the bleeding edge, keeps me learning. WORK Adept at managing projects with little money by optimizing the tasks to give the best outcome with the resources on hand. If you give me a timeline, desired outcome and the available resources then I will find a way to get the project done. With a small IT staff (two network admins and three student employees), we had to wear many hats and learned a broad range of technology to support those for the faculty, staff and students. My most rewarding moments at work involve learning a new technology and then helping to empower a person to use that technology themselves to enhance their learning process. When I started at UW-Waukesha, they had nine networked computers. I managed the IT budget/staff for the campus and expanded the infrastructure to where there are now over 700 networked devices including networked copiers/printers and a campus-wide WIFI. PERSONAL I learned to appreciate the fine qualities of a good beer and a fine wine and would always be glad to discuss those. My spare time is often tinkering with electronics, gaming and sports and I found ways to incorporate these into building collegiality at my work environment; a 20 year Fantasy Football league, coordinating a friendly scramble golf events where all campus people are welcome and assisting at campus events in any way needed.
