About David White

My combined roles of Biomedical Designer and Chief Scientific Officer at Goodair Nosebuds enable me to be a strong advocate of interdisciplinary design-centric applied breathing research. With an emphasis on the human upper airway, I have developed new forms of breathing therapies and devices that our research has shown to influence human physiological/neurological systems, including sleep quality, neurological decline and disease, stroke, obstructive sleep apnoea, and COPD treatments. As a bio-design engineer, I have strong interest and background in human physiology that informs my design processes. Recognising the human being as an assemblage rather than a series of discrete systems is the core philosophy behind my design work which involves applying a range of engineering skills at an appropriate level to inform the design process. My research interest in biomedical engineering is realised through the integration of multidisciplinary skills and knowledge provided by my research networks. I am particularly interested in the design of biomedical devices and therapies associated with the nasal cycle, nasal nitric oxide and the autonomic nervous system. While my core specialty is the design of assistive breathing devices or breathing therapies, I also have many other interests around biomedical device design. I enjoy applying my extensive design experience in many applications to help others and am listed as inventor in multiple national and international patents.
