David was formerly part of a team dedicated to managing the privacy demands placed on the University of Florida (UF) and UF Health. As a chief promoter of value-added privacy practices that support the diverse needs of one of America’s best public universities and academic medical centers, David has the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, well-rounded, collaborative and motivated team. Notable Work and Shared Endeavors HIPAA Compliance Program: Works with a diverse workforce to maintain a comprehensive HIPAA compliance program for UF, its two teaching hospitals, several health science center colleges, and other programs. Ongoing efforts require consideration of HIPAA, federal privacy laws governing health information, and state patient privacy laws. OCR Privacy Audit: Represents the organization in responding to Office for Civil Rights complaints, work closely with legal and information technology experts, and implement improvements to existing policies and procedures. Calm Breach Response: Assist UF and UF Health in calmly responding to events (that may be a breach) involving the inadvertent disclosure of PHI of thousands of individuals. European Union General Data Protection Promoter-by-default of compliance with the ever-challenging EU GDPR. Responsibilities include: • Develop and implement privacy practices that reflect UF / UF Health’s values, mission, and diverse clientele. • Work with an outstanding Information Security team to promote “security by design practices” and participate in various working groups. • Inform UF / UF Health about privacy and data security-related issues. • Build relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, other universities and academic medical centers. • Maintain ability to lead, follow, or “nudge” clients towards compliant practices.
