About David Wilson

Research engineer in the field of energy and combustion, with a focus on algorithms, laser-based diagnostics and emissions. I am currently a software/algorithm engineer for LongPath Technologies - a start-up company developing dual-comb laser spectroscopy technology for detecting methane leaks in oil and gas fields. For my Ph.D. work I developed a Bayesian statistical algorithm for filtering transient effects from Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy measurements. I implemented the algorithm to experimentally investigate engine emission characteristics during transient operation. For my Master’s work, I developed a computationally efficient zonal model for predicting spatially and temporally varying thermodynamic conditions within a reacting mixture during rapid compression machine (RCM) experiments, with the ultimate purpose of understanding how these effects influence the combustion process. In addition to the topics listed above, I am also interested in thermofluid and combustion modelling, computational fluid dynamics, internal combustion engines, advanced combustion strategies, Bayesian statistical analysis and machine learning algorithms. I have a passion for coding and enjoy using scripts/simulation to gain insight into complex problems and analyze experimental data. My preferred language is Python, but I am also proficient in C++ and MATLAB. I also find control theory and mechatronics interesting, although my experience with these topics is mostly limited to coursework.
