About David Winger

I got into sustainability because I saw how much time, energy, and money we waste solving for the wrong things. We often chase short-term wins that don’t serve people or the planet in the long run. That disconnect is what drives me. My work focuses on helping organizations and individuals realign their efforts so they actually work financially, operationally, and environmentally. Sustainability should reduce risk, lower costs, and improve quality of life. When done well, it does all three. I bring experience across operations, finance, and wellness to uncover practical ways to reduce emissions, streamline systems, and build more resilient communities. I have worked on everything from decarbonization toolkits for school districts to behavior-based coaching that helps individuals align their spending and habits with what matters most. Through Root Strategies, my consultancy, I support clients at both the personal and organizational level. I created the RootScore assessment, a tool that provides a clear picture of where people stand across sustainability, finance, and wellness and helps guide next steps that are actually doable. I recently completed my MS in Sustainable Management and am a LEED Green Associate, adding depth to the lived experience I bring to this work. Whether you are a district leader, business owner, or someone trying to live with more intention, I meet you where you are and help map a path forward.
