Background
About David Witten
From the first crack of thunder to the first snowstorm he can remember, David has always been fascinated by the weather. He grew up in PA in the suburbs of Philadelphia where his passion for big east coast storms began. It all started when David would be excited to color in the weather chart in his kindergarten class based on the type of weather he observed that morning. By the time he started middle school, the journey really began when he became involved in his local TV station weather blog. His basic knowledge of forecasting and understanding of the different types of weather models quickly grew. By the time he started high school, David became known as “The Weather Man” and “Weather Witten” around town when his 9th grade English teacher introduced him to CITV where he did the weather live 3-days a week. His interest in weather then lead him to attend The Pennsylvania State University where he joined the Campus Weather Service and learned even more about forecasting. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a minor in GIS in May 2017. David eventually moved on to join WeatherWorks in September 2017. Some of his responsibilities included forecasting, briefing clients, Certified Snowfall Totals and many data projects. David then made the transition to the public sector and joined the National Weather Service in March 2022 after accepting temporary federal employment with the Small Business Administration that involved providing disaster assistance. Combining weather with public service has always been a huge passion of his. Outside of weather, some of his other interests include programming, working with GIS, and video editing. He enjoys hiking, biking, music, spending time with family and friends, and is a Philadelphia and Penn State sports fan.
