About David Wood

David Wood is a skilled developer, manager, and analyst. He has a career spanning over twenty years, in the UK and New Zealand, across a range of industries. David has developed iPhone applications since 2012. With a focus on video, and live performance, his apps enable people to use their devices in unique ways. GoVJ (https://govjapp.com) enables real-time video mixing. Topiary is a management tool for open social media such as Mastodon (https://lightbeamapps.com/topiary) and Video to Audio is a simple utility for extracting audio files from your videos (https://lightbeamapps.com/videotoaudio). David also partners on an open source project for iOS, called TootSDK (https://github.com/tootsdk/tootsdk). This framework provides turn-key access for client iOS apps to open federated social media such as Mastodon, Pleroma, Akkoma and PixelFed. Taking a more-the-merrier approach, David's partnership with Konstantin Kostov has created a project that many developers have contributed to. David joined ANZx in August 2022 as a Mobile Chapter lead. He leads two squads of Android and iOS developers, as both an engineering manager, coach and mentor. He also bridges the communication between engineering with delivery, design and UX, backend and other teams his teams collaborate with. David cultivates a strong and supportive team environment. He specialises in mentoring all levels of engineer, but especially juniors and interns, helping them progress in their careers as developers. David has a special interest in design patterns, and in 2021 developed the Router pattern for SwiftUI applications, ultimately giving a talk at Vancouver Xcoders to showcase to the iOS development community In David's prior data and analytics career, he managed a small team of analysts. With empathy and support, he worked hard to progress his team. He succeeded in supporting new analysts all the way through to attaining higher level roles. David is actively involved in the world wide iOS development community. He talks weekly in his iOS development podcast Waiting For Review He now has over 200 episodes, covering a wide range of topics. The podcast has an active community forum, where David supports iOS developers of all capabilities with their projects and development. David thrives in working environments that allow him to learn, and to provide support to his team. He can bridge the gap between the technical and the managerial, and excels at producing results that drive people and product forwards.
