About David Woodruff

As a dispatcher for the Berlin, CT Police Department and former police officer for over 20 years, retiring as a sergeant, I have handled a vast array of law enforcement and security details. Throughout my career, I have held several roles within the police department all of which contributed to my unique skill set. I commanded the Traffic Safety Bureau, where I supervised investigations, conducted traffic enforcement, scheduling, budgeting, purchasing and maintaining a fleet of police vehicles. As a field training officer, I mentored recruit officers and provided the skills and tools necessary to become successful. Once promoted to sergeant, I became a commanding officer, overseeing all aspects of both the training and patrol divisions. On a daily basis, I severed as a shift supervisor to several patrol officers at any time. I have assumed the lead role in many major investigations, as well. Throughout my entire law enforcement career, I had an active role with the youth group of police explorers, mentoring and teaching many children who went on to become security and law enforcement personnel. Prior to becoming a police officer, while earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice, Police Studies at Marist College. I worked as a security officer on campus. I also volunteered with the local fire department and ambulance as an emergency medical technician, a certification I still hold today, achieving the rank of captain. I am currently a Connecticut certified emergency medical instructor as well as an American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) CPR instructor and actively teach. I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun and I am very interested in computer science. I have an above average knowledge of Excel and Word.
