About David Young

David is a road safety expert with almost 15 years’ experience in the field. His current role is as the manager vehicle safety, innovation and technology at the TAC. Much of David's recent work has focused on the road safety outcomes of new vehicle technologies including Connected and Automated Vehicles. As a part of his recent work David has- Managed and delivered a number of trials of CAV technology including testing of Level 2 and Level 3 systems in live and controlled road environments- Developed a theoretical model for predicting the road safety outcomes of different vehicle technologies. David also works on a broad range of other road safety project for the TAC. These include projects in the areas of Speed, Vehicle Safety and Motorcycle Safety. David holds a doctorate awarded by the department of Civil Engineering at Monash University. This research focused on assessing the injury mechanisms that occur during rollover crashes. David's research tested the hypothesis that a causal link exists between roof strength, roof deformation and neck injuries in rollover crashes. David is also a chartered professional engineer and member of Engineers Australia.
