I've been involved in software development since the age of 9, teaching myself to program the Apple II+ at school. My first commercial software I wrote at 17, for use by teachers and purchased by most of the highschools and universities in Ontario. After that I wrote a POS system to use in my own comic store in Toronto, and only then did I go to university to study computer science formally. Before I started working professionally, I had written software to create Mitel Smart-1 dialer programs, and re-program them by remote, a prototype CuSeeMe client for the Commodore Amiga. A shareware Dungeons and Dragons character generator. A database system for MS-DOS, rewritten and ported to Windows 3.1, and Windows 95. When I decided to learn Japanese, I had a Nokia 9500 smart phone, so I wrote my own Japanese-English dictionary software in OPL while riding the TTC back and forth from work. Since then I've been continuously seeking to learn from those who are passionate about software design and development, because I am. I specialize in software that runs automatically indefinitely with minimal to no human intervention. Recently for fun I have written and maintain a working Bittorrent Client for 30 year old computer hardware (Commodore Amiga) using obsolete APIs purely from the BitTorrent protocol specifications. BitTorrent is not an algorithm. It is a highly chaotic automatic self-regulating multithreaded system that does not terminate. Professionally I have been mostly involved in database design, API design, billing system development, and automated fraud detection systems for telecommunications. To many, Software feels like magic; systems work or fail seemingly at random when it is most inconvenient - In reality computers are deterministic, and follow their programming exactly every time. I thrive when designing or writing software systems that strive to achieve more than the customer hoped they could ask for.
