About Davide Costa

I'm an engineer in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with a strong passion for problem-solving. Over the past two and a half years, I've contributed to the medical field by working at DIMES under two different research contracts. The POR research project was focused on implementing novel deep learning models for the classification of auscultation sounds, which holds immense potential, particularly in developing countries. In this research experience I have worked not only on audio but also on text and images. As a matter of fact, during this time and in my master thesis, I've gained extensive expertise in deep learning model architectures, almost autonomously, including state-of-the-art transformers, and complex training methods like contrastive unsupervised pretraining,especially useful for RAG(Retrieval Augmented Generation) systems. I've also worked with various data modalities, mastering the intricacies of making models excel under diverse constraints. I know, how to train generative models like GPT, Diffusion models, or encoder-like models like Bert and vision transformers. As of now, I am confident in my ability to independently solve the majority of tasks related to deep Learning. I am now in the process of understanding Reinforcement Learning. With over 10 years of Python programming experience and 5+ years of PyTorch expertise, I bring a wealth of technical skills to the table. I'm a practitioner, a hands-on learner, who believes in experiencing theoretical concepts firsthand, often through trial and error. Reading research papers is one thing, but comprehending and applying them effectively in the real world is another. I think I have a unique ability to grasp new and abstract concepts swiftly. I've honed a quick and sharp intuition, enabling me to tackle complex challenges with relative ease. I am always skeptical, which may be percieved as a negative aspect, but I firmly believe that it's better to question, than not to. While I highly value the insights of others, I always maintain a critical eye. My educational journey exposed me to a wide range of programming languages and tools, including Java, Python, Shell scripting, and C. Beyond my professional pursuits, I'm an avid enthusiast of electronics, 3D printing, astronomy, and, of course, programming. As an engineer in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, I'm committed to pushing the boundaries of what technology can achieve and, hopefully, making a lasting impact in my field.
