Background
About Davis Thomas Daniel
My research interests revolve around structural, functional and mechanistic studies of materials using a combination of experimental (magnetic resonance spectroscopy, electrochemical) and computational tools (machine learning, DFT). I grew up in Northern India. After obtaining my B.Sc. Hons. Chemistry from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, I moved to Bonn, Germany to complete my M.Sc. Chemistry degree from University of Bonn. In my master studies, I focused on modules which equipped me with a variety of experimental techniques. The main modules include Biophysical Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. During my Master thesis at CEA Paris, I specialized in Biological High field magnetic resonance, specifically the use of Pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance for characterization of protein structures. In my doctoral project, I investigated redox processes in polymer batteries using magnetic resonance, electrochemical and computational methods. My PhD thesis mainly focused on sustainable energy storage technologies such as Organic Radical batteries and elucidating the mechanistic features of cell degradation and stability. Battery components were investigated using EPR spectroscopy and NMR spectroscopy, characterized using electrochemical protocols along with Density functional theory methods and machine learning. The insights gained from experimental and theoretical results were then used to optimize Organic Radical battery setups.
