About Dawn Bless Comer Mitchell

Dawn Bless, a seasoned arts educator. With a B.S. Degree in Public Relations from Illinois State University, she embarked on her journey in the non-profit sector in 2007, transitioning from non-profit development to becoming a Teaching Artist. Throughout her career, Dawn has collaborated with various organizations, including After School Matters, Black Ensemble Theater, Urban Gateways, and The Chicago Park District, where she has honed her skills as a multi-disciplinary Teaching Artist. Her expertise extends to theater, spoken word, visual arts, playwriting, and jazz, making her a versatile and dynamic force in the arts community. Notably, Dawn has directed and choreographed numerous musicals involving up to 300 young performers, showcasing her ability to navigate large-scale productions with finesse. Her accomplishments include being part of the 1st National U.S. Broadway Tour of WAITRESS and receiving a Joseph Jefferson nomination and a Black Excellence Award for her remarkable portrayal of Patti Labelle in A NEW ATTITUDE at the Black Ensemble Theater. Dawn's theatrical journey has taken her to esteemed venues such as Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and Harvard University's American Repertory Theater, where she performed in THE BLACK CLOWN, with a reprised run at Lincoln Center in New York City. Her talent has also graced the small screen, with appearances in popular shows like "Chicago PD,""Hot Date," and HBO's "South Side." Driven by the belief that art is a door, Dawn's passion lies in using arts experiences as powerful tools for personal growth among young people and the arts community at large. As an arts administrator, she is committed to unlocking the potential of individuals through transformative artistic encounters. With over 20 years of professional arts experience and a diverse skill set, Dawn Bless continues to inspire and make a lasting impact in the arts education field.
