About Dawn Heyward

Dawn has dedicated her life and career to serve as a champion for children and families and has served thousands of families. As a seasoned program designer and evaluator, she employs a social justice prospective to ensure the needs of clients are truly met and that the programmatic goals are measurable and can prove that the selected interventions work. She shares her knowledge willingly and serves as a mentor and coach for many in the field of social service. Dawn often facilitates adult learning experiences, lectures, seminars and workshops where she shares her professional expertise. This passionate professional is a two-time Fordham University graduate. She completed her first master’s degree at the School of Social Service where she earned a master’s degree in Social Work, specializing in social work and law. She returned to Fordham University where she graduated in the inaugural Master of Science in Non-Profit Leadership Degree Program at the School of Business. Leadership and the ability to influence and affect change is a weighty responsibility that Dawn enthusiastically embraces and is honored to provide. Her astute leadership attributes and desire to develop other leaders has led to her current pursuit of a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership from National University; a life-long goal finally been realized as Dawn was honored to receive the 2018 Soar Scholarship. Dawn is a trained clinical social worker who understands to need for senior level persons in the nonprofit sector to fully understand the business aspects which allow nonprofits to do the work. She has successfully written local and federal grants totally millions of dollars in revenue that has been able to increase the work being done with the most disenfranchised among us. Her special areas of practice are: Education, Child Welfare, Domestic Violence and Juvenile Justice, She served for four years as member of Human Rights Committee-ICL. She served as the founding Board Chair on the Living Redemption Community Development Corporation for three years. She now’s serves as the Chairperson of the Audit Committee.
