About Dawn Thut

I started out my career working as a generalist in the field of Medical Technology in area hospitals. I would work in all departments of the laboratory, and perform venipunctures on the patients as necessary. As a generalist, I maintained skills and understanding in all areas of the clinical laboratory as technology and test methodology improved. I enjoyed learning new things and challenging myself. I earned a position in a flow cytometry laboratory which I found very interesting and rewarding. My experience in flow cytometry provided me an opportunity at the Cleveland Cord Blood Center. My role began in the laboratory there in which I helped develop the current processes used in cord blood processing. We are currently the only public cord blood bank in Ohio. My role evolved away from the laboratory allowing a focus on the Quality Management Program. The QMP encompasses both the collection and the processing of cord blood during banking. We strive to consistently achieve a high quality product from collection to transplant. I embrace my roles in quality and management, and I strive to be a good leader by example. I recognize that everyone has something unique and valuable to give if you ask the right questions and listen.
