About Dawson Conrad

I am a hardworking and dedicated Mechanical Engineer with a passion for the development of emerging government and military technology. With this interest in mind, as an undergraduate student I pursued research opportunities to expand my knowledge and experience within this area. As a junior, I became Project Lead for the Clemson University NASA Rocksat-C team which involved the research and development of a contained device of our choosing which was mounted to a sounding rocket and launched into space. This fully student-led year-long project involved monthly design review meetings with NASA WFF supervisors to ensure compliance with the NASA System Engineering Handbook as well as design specifications and requirements set by stakeholders. Expanding my interest in this field, as a senior I took more of a technical role in the AerosPACE program which is a year-long multi-institution UAV design project. As the Propulsion Engineering Technical Lead I developed an Electrical Power Load Analysis and a comprehensive weight study to allow for accurate power loading, drag, and lift calculations as well as static and dynamic propulsion testing to ensure the appropriate sizing of the electrical and propulsion system. With a passion for the development of military technology and the undergraduate experience I have gained within the industry, I have taken a full time position as a Junior Marine Engineer within the Military/Government Division at Michael Peters Yacht Design. In my role I am responsible for the 3D modeling, 2D drawing, and FEA analysis of the structural components and mechanical systems for high speed planning craft contracted by our U.S. Military.
