About Dayan Viera

Highly motivated researcher with over five years of experience in protein expression, purification, and structural analysis, currently pursuing a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) under Dr. Chu-Young Kim supervision. Previously earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where my research focused on elucidating polyketide synthase pathways and protein structures through crystallization. Extensive experience (daily use) with AKTA Pure and AKTA Go systems, and employing multiple purification techniques such as affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography to achieve high-purity samples. Significant (over five years) experience in protein crystallization using vapor diffusion methods (both hanging and sitting drop), either manually or with the NT8 crystallization robot (Formulatrix). Proficient in developing binding assays utilizing Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and MicroScale Thermophoresis (MST) to evaluate protein interactions. I also hold a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry from the University of Habana, where I developed a solid foundation in analytical techniques and chemical research.
