About Daymond Khan

My career remains focused on empowering people to inform and improve the public policies that impact them. This direction led me to run for City Councillor in 2021 with the purpose of getting back to the basics of listening to communities and finding solutions together. I’ve pursued professional, academic, and volunteer opportunities with the purpose of serving those most in need and a career path of public policy. During my time working for the City of Calgary, I've gained insights at the operational level to better round out my experience in policy development, implementation, and evaluation. At Calgary Homeless Foundation, my focus was on better serving Calgarian's experiencing homeless by building relationships with other systems of care to better address the core contributors to homelessness and housing insecurity. My Master’s program at the School of Public Policy taught me the importance of gathering insights from a range of perspectives and utilizing data to move forward evidence-based policy decisions. The School emphasizes a strong foundation in economics and fiscal accountability, which means every policy decision must be considered with the impacts to current and future generations. With the Government of Alberta, I gained insight into the function of government and learned the importance of community consultation and community lead service delivery. Prior to this, I completed an undergraduate degree majoring in political science and minoring in economics. I chose these two areas of study to get a qualitative and quantitative understanding of how government works. My volunteer experience has included contributing as a Champion for the Centre for Suicide Prevention Buddy Up campaign, serving as an Advisory Board Member at Southside Victory Church, working on a Canadian Mental Health Associate distress line, participating in a Youth Against Poverty project, and representing Grant MacEwan university at multiple international model UN conferences.
