About Dean Foley

Dean Foley is a Judicial Registrar of Division’s 1 & 2 of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Brisbane registry. With over sixteen years of experience in the family law area, Dean Foley has been employed as a lawyer and associate lawyer at some of Brisbane’s finest law firms. Dean was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2006, and began his career with Justice Colin Forrest (prior to his Honour's appointment to the bench of the Family Court of Australia). Dean commenced employment as a clerk with Simonidis Shoebridge Lawyers in 2004 and, following his admissions, rose to Associate lawyer at Simonidis Shoebridge Lawyers before moving to Herbert Geer in 2010, Murdoch Lawyers in 2012 and HopgoodGanim Lawyers in 2020 as Special Counsel. Dean is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in family law, and holds nationally recognised qualifications as a mediator through the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediator (AIFLAM). Immediately prior to taking up his current role in the court Dean was elected to the board of the Family Law Practitioners Association (FLPA). Apart from having broad general knowledge of the family law field, Dean has also specialised in some niche areas, such as: cases involving governmental agencies and property outside of Australia; parenting matters involving allegations of child violence; and, property settlement involving a bankrupt party. Dean collaborates with a team of highly qualified professionals who produce the best possible legal offence, defence and outcomes for all clients.
