I joined Alleyroads in 2017 as CEO of Mega Projects and Social Housing, bringing positive change to underprivileged and underserved communities. Alleyroads is an award-winning, leading black-owned, national scale property developer and landlord focused on affordable residential housing (“Alleyroads Residential”), and retail and industrial property (“Alleyroads Retail & Industrial”). With over 35 years’ experience in the property and banking industries, I have held various roles including quantity surveyor, property manager, developer, and property financier for Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking Division and the National Urban Reconstruction and Housing Agency (NURCHA). During my time at Standard Bank’s Commercial Property Finance Division, I managed a portfolio of smaller office buildings and neighbourhood shopping centres valued at approximately R100m. In the midst of the residential property boom, I transferred to the Residential Finance Department and grew my residential portfolio to over R500m (with peak funding exceeding R800m) prior to leaving Standard Bank. During my four years with NURCHA, I significantly increased the loan book by expanding the client base and creating a broader geographic spread of loans within South Africa, resulting in a stronger pipeline of loan applications. I also increased the number of B-BBEE participants in the Emerging Developer Programme and significantly improved the sectional title loan book.
