About Dean Lefeuvre McIeem

I'm an ecologist with over a decade of professional experience within the environmental consultancy sector. I have worked for a number of consultancies across the Northwest and Midlands acquiring a wide range of experience on projects ranging from small scale developments to large infrastructure projects. I’m a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology Environmental Management (CIEEM) and my academic qualifications include an FdSc in Ecology & Conservation Management and a BSc in Rural Resource Management. I’m a competent surveyor of ecological site appraisals (Phase 1/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal) using both JNCC and UKHab assessment methodology. I also specialise in a range of protected species surveys for bats, badgers, breeding birds, amphibians, reptiles, white-clawed crayfish, water vole and otter. During 2023, I have been providing ecological support to Leicestershire County Council's ecology department to assist in the determination of planning applications, demonstrating my understanding of the planning system. I have held numerous European Protected Species Mitigation Licenses (EPSML) as the Named Ecologist for badger sett interference and roosting bats. Bat mitigation licences include Common Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle and Brown Long-eared bats. I have also been named as an Accredited Agent on licenses for Nathusius Pipistrelle, Bechstein's, Lesser Horseshoe, Barbastelle, Leisler's, Noctule, Natterer's, Daubenton's, Whiskered and Brandt's. I’m a level 2 bat licensed tree climber, CSCS/ROLO certified and in the past worked on rail under PTS & DCCR, although the latter will have now expired due to my current job role.
