About Deana Johnson

Deana D. Johnson is founder and owner of Therapeutic Greenhouse. As Senior Clinician, it is a privilege for her to travel along with you on your journey through not only change, but through growth, healing, self-improvement and self-empowerment. She is known to have a warm, relaxed and direct approach to counseling that involves education, acceptance and non-judgment. She is a listening ear that works with her clients from a strength-based perspective while utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapies. Regarding change, after reaching her highest weight of 290 pounds, in 2012, Deana underwent gastric bypass surgery as a last resort to treat symptoms associated with high blood pressure and diabetes. After surgery and to her surprise, the journey toward a positive body image and maintaining weight loss became harder and not much easier than before. She discovered the solace in psychotherapy and understands how crucial the therapeutic process is, not just to maintaining an 80-pound weight loss, but to overcoming other past challenges and hardships she experienced in life. In addition to her personal experience, Deana possesses a Master Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Md. Baltimore and Certification in Psychotherapy. She’s been working as a Social Worker and Manager for the Department of Social Services for the past 10 years and worked as a Social Worker for a Homeless Shelter where she counseled and served single women with children for 6 years. She provided individual, family and couples counseling for a local private practice for the past several years. As a seasoned and competent therapist, Deana is equipped to help others as they grow toward acceptance and change.
