About Deanna Monaco

I studied at San Francisco State University, where I earned a BA in Science with an emphasis in Environmental Studies. After graduating, I gained hands-on plant knowledge through volunteer work with great San Francisco based organizations like the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Presidio Native Plant Nursery, Friends of the Urban Forest, and Garden for the Environment. For over a dozen years, I used this expertise in my gardening business, creating beautiful climate appropriate gardens in the sandy wind swept hills of San Francisco. Equally important were the lasting relationships I created with my clients, whose expectations I always exceeded. I am proud of both improving these tiny patches of earth and of cultivating joy with my clients. The physicality of gardening has put an end to that chapter, and now I put my efforts to good use with an organization that provides mental health and housing services to young adults. As my career grows, I hope to continue supporting organizations who contribute to the greater good through education, striving for economic and social equality, caring for public gardens, preserving open spaces, protecting natural habitats, and advancing environmental sustainability.
