The Latino Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to advocate, support and provide mentorship to the underserved and underrepresented artist community in Kansas City on both sides of the state line. The art mentorship program provides no cost creative writing, videography, visual art and theater to aspiring artists in the community. It is built on the diverse cultural stories of artists creating an artist-based space OF their community FOR their community. The Latino Arts Foundation has under its umbrella the beautiful Latino Arts Festival which is in its fourth year. It is an event to share all the phenomenal art that so many aspiring and experienced artists are creating among us within our own communities that we may not always get the privilege to see. The Foundation provides the artist a booth at no cost to ensure we are supporting all artists. The festival is a celebration of our Latino culture in Kanas City and it includes 80+ Lowriders and custom cars & bikes, folkloric dancers, musicians and vendors. To give back to our artist community we created a Latino Arts Festival Scholarship to award to high school students whom are interested in pursuing the arts as a career which is fundraised yearly via our Latino Arts Foundation Fundraising event. To further the exclamation of our voices, I have created a podcast called the Midwest Chicana where I bring in people in our communities whom are needing a platform to share their voice. Midwest Chicana opens the conversation on the what, why and how they are making impacts and creating change in the community. The podcast also gives light to where we can help and support and gives light to safe spaces in the community. The community can help Latino Arts Foundation and the artists we support by volunteering to be a mentor, volunteering for workshops, volunteer at the Latino Arts Festival and/or Latino Arts Foundation Fundraising event. We are always looking for volunteers to join our Advisory Committee for the Latino Arts Festival which planning will begin in January 2020. This is a great way to be involved.
