About Debaleena Roy

Hello, I'm an Urban Planner with an academic foundation from IIT Roorkee and S.P.A New Delhi. My professional journey has been defined by a diverse range of experiences, from advocating for the rights of street vendors and preparing City Street Vending Plans with NASVI to organizing disaster resilience initiatives at SAADRI and the CoEDMM, IIT Roorkee. Being part of SAADRI's global network, I currently have the privilege of coordinating and participating in various activities, workshops, and disaster research initiatives across the South Asian Region and beyond. This role not only allows me to make a meaningful contribution to the field of disaster risk reduction but also enables me to be part of a collaborative effort aimed at reducing risk and enhancing resilience on a regional and international scale. In addition, I am responsible for creating content for SAADRI, including quarterly newsletters, brochures, and reports, which significantly contribute to the organization's growth and influence. It's a privilege to work alongside a global team dedicated to Disaster Risk Reduction in South Asia, the hotspot of disasters. Recently, I had an opportunity to share insights on the challenges and opportunities for women in Disaster Risk Management at the IDRiM 2023 Conference. I've also contributed to a Special Session Webinar by exploring the intersections of sustainability, scarcity, and security in India. I had the valuable opportunity to attend the International Workshop on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in Hualien, Taiwan. This hands-on experience spanned from situation assessments to field operations, providing me with a deeper understanding of disaster response and relief efforts. My commitment to learning and knowledge-sharing is evident in my active involvement in these in initiatives. I am passionate about shaping resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban systems, and I look forward to collaborating on projects that can lead towards positive change in our communities.
