About Debbie Chapman

In 2018 I was elected as Ward 9 City Councillor in Kitchener, and then re-elected in 2022. I bring many years of community work, a clear understanding of urban politics, acquired through teaching urban politics courses and a conviction that much more can be done to improve people's lives in this City. I would like to see responsible development in the core, affordable housing, participatory budgeting and community space for a growing population. I have served on many boards and advisory committees including Kitchener Housing Inc, Grand River Hospital, Multicultural Centre, Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee, Kitchener Business Improvement Area (BIA), Environmental Committee, Downtown Action Advisory Committee and others. I continue to teach part-time at Wilfrid Laurier University. My specialties include urban politics, development studies, state/society relations, Latin America, Mexico, political science. I have extensive teaching experience in International Development Studies, Political Science, North American Studies, Global Studies and Contemporary Studies.
