About Debbie Prouty

Dr. Prouty has been a physical therapist since 2001 and holds a Board Specialty Certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings and have extensively in the inpatient setting, including acute care/ICU, long-term acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. Currently, she is an assistant professor in Wingate University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program and works on a PRN basis in the acute care/ICU setting. Her physical therapy practice has focused primarily on the geriatric population, especially medically complex older adults. At Wingate, she teaches physical therapy course content related to clinical management of older adults, clinical practice in the acute care setting, and pharmacology. Her current research includes investigating interprofessional education to prepare DPT students for clinical practice and geriatric physical therapy research examining best practices for aging in place and investigating the link between changes in gait variability and predicting early dementia.
